The Royal Border Bridge is an impressive nineteenth century railway viaduct. Opened by Queen Victoria in 1850, it was built by Robert Stephenson. It is a 659 metre long curving railway viaduct. Structurally it is composed of 28 high round arches (stone-faced brick) built on stone piers rising to 38 metres above the river.
