He servedin the .Army of the Potomac, and participatedin the battles of the Shenandoah Xalley andwith the .Army of the Potomac. In the lastyear of the war he served under General Phil.^^hcridan. .At the battle of .Aldie he waswoundetl, taken ])risoner, and was recapturedthe next morning, and lay in the hospital threemonths on account of his wounds. Returning home, he turned his attention tothe study of dentistry, under the instruction ofDr. Stockton, at Mount Holly, and then com-I)leted a course at the Penn Dental School,Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in1871. Later the same year he located in Bord-entovvn, where he has since remained, and haswon for himself a more than enviable reputa-tion in his profession, and which is far frombeing merely local. He is an honored mem-ber of various dental associations. In relig-ion he is a Baptist. He is affiliated with Lodge, Free and Accepted Hilliard married, in 1875, Virginia, daugh-ter of John and Elizabeth ( Woolston ) Wools-ton, of Mount Holly. Children, all born inBordentown: i.
