The fibres of the external aredirected obliquely downward and inward, and those of the internal oil-liquely downward a id backward, so that they cross each other. The triangularis stcrni is situated within the chest, connecting theside of the sternum and sternal extremities of the costal cartilageswith the cartilages of the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth lower fibres of this muscle are continuous with the diaphragm.
