DNA testing. Close-up of a cotton swab being used to take a sample of cells from the inside of a man's cheek. The swab will be sent to a laboratory, where the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) will be extracted from the cells and sequenced. Each person's DNA is unique to them. One use for the DNA may be for a paternity test. By comparing the potential father's DNA with that of the child, the paternity of the child may be determined.
