An Chinese officer's helmet (niru), Qing Dynasty, 17th/18th century Two-piece, brass soldered iron skull with riveted crown and tall, slender plume socket (screwed, but loosened), likewise riveted rim with curved peak. Cheek-pieces made of fabric and riveted to the skull, cheek guards and neck guard with riveted metal plates(!), additionally covered with dark blue cloth decorated with polychrome silk embroidery and bordered with silk brocade, the surrounding piping of black horse hair. The neck guard surmounted by a heavily worn silk band with the name and rank,
