At present the ves- sel is primarily engaged in surveys of Chesapeake Bay and its major tributaries to measure the dis- tribution and abundance of fishes and other migra- tory marine animals, to study their movements and estimate the catch of the various commercial and sport fisheries by tagging, to estimate the success of spawning and attempt to predict the future sup- ply. It is planned to broaden the program in the future, to investigate the effects of oceanic currents upon the sunrival of young fishes and their move- ments from the ocean spawning grounds to nursery grouixds in the Bay and estuaries. overhead. The galley is fitted with a stainless steel gas stove, an 8-cubic-foot electric refrigerator, a stainless steel sink, and built-in table and benches of marine plywood.
