Seen here is the spacecraft adapter test article that was designed and built at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. An identical adapter, also designed and built at NASA Marshall, connected Orion to the United Launch Alliance Delta IV heavy rocket for Orion's first flight on December 5. The same adapter design will also connect Orion to the Space Launch System, NASA's new rocket being designed and managed at the Marshall Center, that will carry humans farther into space than ever before.
