Donna Bice seemed gen-uinely glad to see me, and had a most lovely luncheonfor us in the quaint and oddly decorated dining-roorftof the villa, which at first glance at its Gothic decora-tions and fine glass reminded one of a chapel. After luncheon we strolled all about the immense [228 1. AND COUNTRY SEATS park. The beautiful and famous water art of thisvilla quite deserves its renown. Paths lined withstately forest trees lead us, now to a lake where theyellow autumn leaves, caught by the suns rays, seemto star the water with gold; now where a tiny cascadesurprises us with its noisy rushing veil of water; nowa flowing brook leads past the old Roman tomb to thelittle marble tempietto, while long, still canals reflectthe graceful ivy-grown tree trunks that line their sides;each and all are so combined that one beautiful vistaafter another is arranged for the enchanted red-billed black swans seemed to take a greatliking to me, and constantly caught up with us on ourwalk. We had our coffee in a marvellous little thatchedhouse on the grounds, which seem to have been laidout with a fairy touch at every turn. On the branchesof a tree over one small bridge there hung tiny redberries; Signor Tittoni caught up a fishing-pole thatse
