Retinoschisin molecule. Researcher looking at a computer model of a molecule of retinoschisin, a protein produced by the gene that causes the disease retinoschisis. This genetic disorder is the most common form of retinal damage in young males. It results in a degenerative splitting of the retina, with cyst formation between the layers, possibly leading to blindness.
