A cooling tower at the Michigan City Generating Station is a coal and natural gas-fired power plant located on the shore of Lake Michigan. The plant, which opened in 1950, is operated by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO). While the cooling tower is often associated with nuclear power plants, there are no such plants operated in the state of Indiana. The tank cars at the base of the cooling tower can be used to deliver energy sources to the plant.
