The formation consists ofalternating beds of argillaceous dolomite, finely crystalline densedolomite and soft finely porous dolomite. The name Doerun isfrom the Doe Run Lead Company, which owns the lands uponwhich the type section occurs. The thickness of this formation is variable between quite widelimits, owing to an uneven or perhaps unconformable contact withthe overlying Potosi formation. The repetition of very similar bedsthrough faulting in certain areas may also have been instrumentalin giving to this formation an apparently much greater thicknessthan it actually possesses.
