Itis best, therefore, to use some method of holding the bolts in thefoundation that will provide a fair degree of freedom so that theycan be entered in the bed-plate holes and the engine shifted slightlyto bring it into alignment. This can be accomplished by the methodof Fig. 8 which shows a piece of pipe, whose internal diameter isfrom one to two inches greater than that of the bolt, suspended bythe bolt from the template. This piece of pipe should be centeredwith the pipe at the top and bottom by means of centering-disksas shown. These disks may be made of wood or metal.
