Sinai Peninsula & Nile Delta from space. North is at bottom left. The Sinai Peninsula (light brown, triangular) lies above and left of the River Nile Delta (dark triangle, lower centre). Cairo (white, Egypt's capital), is at right of the apex of the Delta. Egyptian Sinai is circled by the main part of the Red Sea (upper right), the Gulf of Suez (centre right), the Suez Canal (straight line at upper left of Delta), the Mediterranean Sea (lower left), Israel (dark, below Dead Sea, far left) and the Arabian Peninsula (upper left). The Dead Sea Rift forms the eastern border of Sinai and Israel, and runs along the Gulf of Aqaba to the Dead Sea. Taken in 1991, from the Space Shuttle Columbia.
