A Canadian Pacific Railway locomotive making a switching move with a string of intermodal or stack cars just east of the Bensenville Yard on a lead track in Franklin Park a near western suburb of Chicago. Canadian Pacific obtained the Bensenville Yard when it absorbed the Soo Liine who had acquired it from the Milwaukee Road. Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railway became major American railroad players through acquisition of smaller US railways during the industry's consolidation phase in the late 20th century. The Canadian giants are now two of seven Class 1 railroads in the United States.
