Biocomposite fibre use. Workers with plant fibres, which in this case will be used to make biocomposite materials for car bodies. In the background the fibres have been loosely stitched together (needle punched) to form a mat. In a biocomposite material plant fibres in a mat have plastic injected around and between to make a material which is stronger than plastic by itself. Natural plant fibres are strong, cheap, and light. They are a renewable resource, biodegrad- able, and are easier and safer to handle than man-made materials. Photographed at a Plant Fibres factory in Wales, Great Britain.
