A scene from Hudibras, an English satirical polemic written by Samuel Butler(1613 – 1680), poet and satirist, mostly against Parliamenterians,Roundheads, Puritans, Presbyterians and other factions involved in the English Civil War of 1642-1651. The epic tells the story of Sir Hudibras and his squire, Ralpho who ride forth from the knight’s home to reform what they call sins and what the rest of the world regards as mild amusement. Here Sir Hudibras, knocked off his horse is subdued by Trulla, one of the mob about to indulge in bear baiting with dogs.
