It contains, moreover, a de-fective triple valve, the presence of which the menmust detect after a certain amount of teaching. Tofacilitate the instruction there are additional parts,such as the auxiliary reservoir and the brake cylinder,with portions of the metal cut away to permit theinstructor to explain their operation fully. A triplevalve similarly cut away, and connected in tandemwith another operating triple valve, fully demonstrates. use of the mechanism but also how to act in cases ofemergency. This personal teaching is supplementedby an excellent book of instructions containing about150 questions and answers of a practical nature, withcuts and explanations of all the apparatus. This themotorman is expected to study closely and time to time his knowledge of its contents istested in examinations. Should he be of an inquiring turn of mind he is furtherallowed the privilege andopportunity of enteringthe shops and studying theentire system in detail, asmuch as he desires.
