Insects,Flowers,Animals,Textures of White Rock Lake
White Rock Lake is the Crown Jewel of the Dallas Parks and Recreation Area. It is on the Central Migratory Route for migrating birds from South America to Northern Canada. The size of the lake in the heart of a Metroplex of million people makes it a fantastic learning center, sports and recreation venue and a natural forest of 100 year old cottonwood and oak trees. In a recent storm in June, over 700 trees were lost due to the storm with power out for over 350K customers. Utility Companies from 11 states came to help restore power. The vast tonnage of tree trunks, large limbs and stumps are still being removed from the three neighboring sections of the city that surround the lake. Hummingbirds, Monarch Butterflies, bird species from hawks to parrots to pelicans to bald eagles and ospreys migrate with egrets, great blue herons and even a snowy owl from time to time visit,rest and move on during the seasons. To have this lake in my back yard is a gift!
