Oxford, England - 25 October 2017 Striking cloudscape over Oxford, with cirrus, altocirrus and vapor trails. Cirrus clouds - seen here - have a characteristic wispy, feathery form, and consist of high-level ice crystals. We can also see some cirrocumulus, the small and spotty clouds that form at the same stratospheric levels as cirrus. I just love cloudscapes and skies. Mostly they are pretty boring, but others - like the one in this shot - can be startlingly beautiful. And, needless to say, you will never see the same sky twiceÉ So I often look up whenever I get a chance. After all, you never know what you might see. But I would advise not trying this whilst driving or crossing the road! Maybe all this is down to my being an air pollution scientist for many years, when I got used to perpetually looking at the sky.
