And chief amongthe chosen stands James W. Tate, her well-beloved representative, andher trusted and honored treasurer. Mr. Tates birthplace was nearthe I^jrks of IClkhorn. He was an only son, and was consetpientlyidolized by his parents. He was born in [ranklin county, Ky., onJanuary 2, 1831. His father was Colonel Thomas \,. Tate, a gentle-man well-known throughout Kentucky for his i)robity and sterlingworth. Colonel Tale was a native of Kentucky, but was descendedfrom a Virginia family of Scotch-Irish extraction; a
