Sudo Park rises like an amphitheater around a central pond and shrine to Benzaiten, the goddess of love, water, fortune, music and poetry. Sudo Park is the site of the former residence of the Daishoji clan, a branch of the Kaga clan in the Edo period. Later, it became the residence of Yajiro Shinagawa, and was purchased by businessman Kichizaemon Sudo in 1889. In 1933 the Sudo family donated the land to Tokyo City for use as a park then in 1950 it was transferred to Bunkyo Ward. Within the pond garden there is a small shinto shrine. In season, the pond is respendent with lotuses and wisteria.
