A German cast iron mortar, mid-16th century Cast iron with black patina. Slender, cylindrical body with heavy banding and flared base and lip. On both sides is a relief décor of stags, birds and horses. One side bears the monogram "CS". Laterally are two square handles. The lip is re-worked. Included is a forged iron pestle.
