The cricothyroid membrane is subcutaneous at its middle portion 304 DISEASES OF THE NOSE AND THROAT. and laterally is overlapped by the cricothyroid muscle. It is crossedby a small communicating- branch between the two superior laryngealarteries, known as the inferior laryngeal or cricothyroid. Two orthree small vessels penetrate the membrane and supply the mucousmembrane of the larynx. The lateral portions of the cricothyroid membrane pass upward.
