The average altitude of most of the Alfalfa seed sold by us is 5000 feet. In the mountain highlands with severe winter temperatures, often as low as 2 5 degrees below zero, with little or no snow on the ground to protect the dormant plants. Airalfa seed produced under these con- ditions must be perfectly hardy, insuring good stands. Alfalfa is sown from 10 to 25 pounds to the acre, depending on the character of the soil.
