Landreths' White Cos, 50 days. âThis variety, maturing for table in seven weeks from germination, should be found in every vegetable garden, as it is a thoroughly reliable Lettuce. A strong grower and very productive, with long, shell-shaped leaves of most excellent quality. It is a self-folder, but when the plant is over half-grown it is best tied up with a soft string or a wisp of grass, that the inner leaves may be blanched perfectly white, in which condi- tion they are more crisp and decidedly more pal- atable than varieties of a Cabbage-heading habit. It is a mystery why it does not displace them, especially as a given amount of ground will produce more than twice the amount of edible leaves that can possibly be obtained from any round-head variety.
