Krak des Chevaliers, Syria, c1950s(?). The castle was given to the Knights Hospitaller in 1142 by Raymond II, Count of Tripoli, and became their main military base for over a century. THe fortress was eventually captired by the Mamluk Sultan Baibars in 1271. Designated as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006.
