Among them Ras Engedda, who had proposed the mas-sacre of the European prisoners. It appears that when RasEngedda fell, Theodore divested himself of his gold-brocadedmantle and hurried farther up the fortress. As soon as the outergateway was carried Theodore shot himself with a pistol, andfell dead.
