Arteries in pelvis. Coloured 3-D computed tomogra- phy (CT) scan of the human pelvis, showing the arteries that supply the legs. The large, wing- shaped bones of the pelvis are at the top left and right. At the lower left and right are the two ball-and-socket hip joints. At upper centre is the branching point of the two iliac arteries from the aorta. Further down the iliac arteries run into the femoral arteries, which occupy the upper legs. This scan was compiled by computer from multiple X-rays taken at different angles. The arteries were highlighted by prior injection of an X-ray- opaque dye into the bloodstream (angiography).
