French Indochina was part of the French colonial empire in southeast Asia. It was formed in October 1887 from Cochinchina, Annam and Tonkin (together forming modern Vietnam) Cambodia following the Sino-French War of 1884-1885 and Laos after the Franco-Siamese War. This federation lasted until 1954.
