Golden Chedi of Wat Bowonniwet | Bangkok
bWat Bowonniwet Vihara/b (Thai: วัดบวรนิเวศวิหาร) is a first-class Royal Buddhist monastery in Bangkok, Thailand. The temple is a center of the Thammayut Nikaya school of Thai Theravada Buddhism and has been a major temple of patronage for the Chakri dynasty. It is the shrine-hall of Phra Phutthachinasri (พระพุทธชินสีห์) which was moulded in about 1357. The temple (wat) was construced by King Rama III bearing his trademark Chinese influence. King Mongkut served as abbot here during his 27 years in the monkhood and found the strict Thammayut sect of Buddhism, for which the temple is now the headquarters. There have been six abbots from the beginning to the present, three of whom have been Supreme Patriarchs (including the current one). Since Mongkut, many Thai kings have served their monkhoods in the temple, including the current monarch, Rama IX. Restoration of most of the vast complex was recently completed. As you can see here the golden colors are amazing, and nicely complemented by a rare blue sky in Bangkok.
