Light micrograph of Pandorina sp. (named after Pandora, mythological woman) freshwater green alga colonies. These are globular colonies with 8 or 16 biflagellate cells that are closely adherent at their bases. The cells are surrounded by a layer of mucilage. Some of the cells have their red eyespots in focus. Material from a small freshwater puddle. Microscopic contrast technique: Differential interference contrast. Magnification 600x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
