Tourists inspect slabs of Huon Pine in the Tasmanian Special Timbers Shop in Strahan, Tasmania. Huon Pine is native to south west Tasmania and highly prized for its fine grain and natural oils that resist rot. Trees grow for several thousand years and are some of the oldest living organisms in the world; it is illegal to cut living trees, this wood has mostly been salvaged from rivers.
