BARN OWL (Tyto alba) young at entrance to nest chamber, UK.
This wild barn owlet is approximately 9 weeks old. The nest is in an old barn the inside of which the farmer no longer uses. Barn owls have nested at this site for a number of years. For the last 3 years they have used this chamber in the gable end. This year there was a clutch of 5 eggs, one of which was lost. Of this owl's siblings 1 has fledged but continues to return to the nest, others are 'branching'. Photographed under licence.
