I lived and worked on Handa Island, Scotland, for two seasons and as a result really got to know the neighbours. The island is home to hundreds of thousands of seabirds, including northern fulmars (Fulmarus glacialis). Fulmars are territorial and full of character. I loved watching and listening to the cackling calls of this pair as one bird returned from a foraging trip it's partner responded submissely.
