Police evidence bags. Evidence bags are used to protect and catalogue the evidence obtained from a crime scene, victim or suspect. Such evidence can include murder weapons, clothing or hair and saliva samples, from which a DNA profile can be formed and compared to profiles already held on the National DNA Database UK (NDNAD). Labelling of evidence is crucial to provide the 'chain of custody'. This documents what happens to a piece of evidence, from its discovery at the crime scene, to its use in a court of law.
