Europe Greece Cyclades Santorini The village of Pyrgos Among the sites of 'interest are the old traditional houses, the ruins of a Venetian fortress and Byzantine churches. Of great impact and Theotokaki church, dating from the tenth century AD, with its frescoes and old icons. At 4 km outside the village is the monastery of Prophet Elias, which rises to the top of the hill and was built in 1771 by the monks for Joachim and Gabriele. The monastery museum presents uninestimabile collection of ecclesiastical documents, icons dating from the period from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century, an iron cross of the twentieth century and the miter set with diamonds of Patriarch Gregory V.
