Stenosis of the carotid, drawing

Illustration of the stenosis of the carotid. This pathology is a narrowing of the interior of the carotid artery (which ensures oxygenation of the brain), due to atheroma deposits. Stenosis of the carotid can cause a cerebral embolism (migration of a clot or the debris from fatty deposit) that can lead to a CVA.
