RED BLOOD CELL
Red blood cells, or corpuscles, play a crucial role in oxygen transportation. Red cells measuring 7 micrometers in diameter shaped like biconcave disks and exhibit an elasticity and deformability allowing them to move through capillaries with a smaller diameter. Red blood cells are produced by erythroblasts and live in the blood stream for about 120 days. At the end of their life, they are phagocytosed by macrophages which destroy them. There are about 5 million red blood cells per cubic milimeter of blood. Here a drawing of red cells
