The bank having givenway considerably in one place, an eddy is formed, but it presents nodanger if you ply the oars well and keep pretty well out. There are several small settlements on the right side, betweenthe Yazoo and the Walnut Hills. Yazoo river, [fc 2] 3 miles below 103, Above and below the mouth of this river is a large willow beach,that very much spoils the appearance of its entrance, and gives itseveral mouths. In passing it, keep rather nearest the right handShore to -*void eddies on both sides of the river. Walnut Hills, [I 2] 9 miles below the Yazoo, Here is a large eddy near the left hand shore which you must avoidin passing the Hills by keeping pretty well out. There is a goodlanding just below the eddy, and about opposite Mr. Turnbullshouse. The river here makes a great left hand bend bearing hard 1?2 NAVIGATOR. TValnut Hills MAP IX. 105. NAVIGATOR. 173 against the Hills, of which you have a very fine view before you getwithin two miles of them. As you pass the Hills, you have in view the river for seven oreight miles below, and on the right hand side several is the crookedness of the river here, that from seven miles be-low the Walnut Hills it is but four miles and a half across to theYazoo, while by water it is 16.
