The streets of Nabatieh, Lebanon, are covered with human blood, during the Day of Ashura, an annual festival amongst the Shi'ite Muslim community that mourns the death of Imam Husayn. In Nabatieh (also spelled as Nabatiyeh, Nabatiye) some adherents take part in self-flagellation and cut their foreheads with traditional swords and knives. Some faint after losing too much blood.
