. Florists' review [microform]. Floriculture. L'J^J'--_-jr*'^^^^ AMERICAN DAHUA SOCIETY. Eighth Annual Exhibition. The eighth annual exhibition of the American Dahlia Society opened in the spacious roof gardens of the Hotel Pennsylvania, New York, Tuesday, Sep- tember 26, and continued until 10:30 p. m. the following Friday. It was the largest exhibition yet staged by the so- ciety, and, it was said by those who have seen the former shows, the largest ever staged. The commercial section of the ex- hibition was prominent, so much so that the competitive exhibits were hard pushed for room. Confusion reigned throughout the first day; indeed, it was not until the afternoon of the second day that complete order came out of chaos. Of course, the management was open to criticism, not altogether un- justly, because the work of installing the exhibition devolved upon one head. Secretary Sathgeber waa in control of every detail of the show, and it was too much for him. It is to be hoped that another year there will be a regularly constituted show manager and enough intelligent assistants to insure smooth working in the installation of what has come to be a pretty big annual show. A good deal of sympathy went out to the judges, who could not well locate their stagings, and whose work was unfinished at closing time of the first day. Large Attendance. The attendance was quite large, won- derful for a "one flower" show. The several passenger elevators of the big hotel, however, handled the visitors without any trouble or congestion. Visi- tors generally were amazed at the riot of color found in the two large halls, and it was not hard to realize that the dahlia was in full possession of its own. Looking from one end of either hall to the other, the twenty-five years of dahlia development were laid out to view. The stretch from the old quilled variety of grandmother's day to the artistic blooms embraced in ten types seen today was in plain evidence. Fine
