ATLANTIC OCEAN (Feb. 24, 2010) – The crew of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) assemble on the flight deck forming number 75, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the iconic raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle for Iwo Jima, Feb. 24, 2020. Twenty-seven Medals of Honor were awarded to Marines and Sailors, many posthumously, more than were awarded for any other single operation during World War II.
