Berlin-Mitte. Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz U-Bahn underground railway station serves the U2 Line. Station Interior with yellow tiled walls & historic old photographs It was designed by Alfred Grenander and opened in 1913 as Schönhauser Tor station. The station has a central platform and the yellow tiled walls are decorated with historic photographs of the area. It is a relatively shallow station (4 metres below pavement level) and is classified as an Unterpflasterbahn Station. The station has, over the years, had various names. In 1934 the name was changed to Horst-Wessel-Platz after the late Horst Wessel who died on 23 February 1930. The station was completely destroyed in WW2 during the Battle of Britain and when it reopened after the war, it reverted to its original name. In 1950 it was renamed Luxemburgplatz and in 1978 the name was changed to Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz to avoid confusion with the country. Rosa Luxemburg was a German revolutionary communist.
