In many respects^ it is themost interesting of the many types of inclined plane cableroads. From one bulkhead to the other the line is straight,except as to elevations, and is 3,825 feet long, with anelevation of 500 feet. Tracks are double, of 8 feetgauge, spaced iSJeet between centers, and laid with 56- section are 5^ inches between centers and rest on thepulleys just below the top of the channel irons, except atthe moment when the car is passing over, when theropes are lifted out of the conduit to a height of twofeet, falling again into place below the street level whenthe car has crossed.
