The flag and guns shown in the earlier picture have been swept away. Theupper casemate to the left has been demolished. The lower ones remained intact, however, and continuedto be used and even armed to the end of the Confederates defense. The guns here bore on the channelnearly opposite Fort Moultrie. The bake oven of the barracks—on the chimney of which are a couple ofConfederate soldiers—was frequently used for heating solid shot.
