While the exact origin of the French Bulldog is not certain it is thought that in the 1800s lace workers from England took smaller bulldogs with them to Normandy The Bulldogs became very popular as ratters and loyal family companions and their popularity grew Selective breeding led to the distinctive bat ears and the skull that is flat between the ears
