St Peter’s Church, Tewin, Hertfordshire, Dates to Saxon times. It was restored c1086 when the Nave and Chancel were built by Peter De Valoignes, Sheriff of Hertford Castle. An altar and oak panelling given in 1928 by Sir Otto Beit, and the South Aisle altar was given in memory of Alfred Beit, pioneer with Cecil Rhodes in Rhodesia. St Peter’s Church has a large memorial to General Joseph Sabine, a Governor of Gibraltar
