Ramsgate's Trent class lifeboat Esme Anderson 14-02 moored in The Royal Harbour

Our offshore lifeboat the Esme Anderson (14-02) has been stationed at Ramsgate since 1994. She was handed over to the RNLI on the 25th October 1994 by Christopher Oldham, the son of the donor, the late Esme Anderson. She is the second boat on the south coast to carry this name, the first being the Newhaven lifeboat which was named after Mrs Oldham’s stepfather Keith Anderson. The Esme Anderson is a Trent class lifeboat, this class is the fourth in a line of fast afloat boats (FAB). Production of the Trent’s started in 1993 with Ramsgate receiving the first production boat. She is designed to lie afloat and can be seen moored along side the new (1998) boathouse in the outer harbour. Some of the features of the Trent are her substantial bulge keels which allows her to take the ground without sustaining damage to her propellers and a sheerline which sweeps down to make it easier when recovering survivors.
