Kanchenjunga Darjeeling trek India

Kanchenjunga is the world's third highest peak. It lies on the border of India and China in the eastern arc of the Himalaya. These mountains are known as The Abode of Snows. The relatively undeveloped and well forested state of Sikkim lies to the south. The area is home the the Nyingmapa sect of Mahayana or Tibetan buddhism. This photo was taken from the Singalila Ridge which is a north-south running mountain ridge in northwestern West Bengal, India. The district of Ilam in Nepal falls on the western part of this ridge, and the northern ridge ends up in Sikkim, the Indian part of the Himalayas. It separates mountain ranges of West Bengal from other Himalayan ranges to its west. The two highest peaks of West Bengal, Sandakphu at 3,636 m and Phalut at 3,600 m are located on the ridge. The Singalila National Park encompasses the ridge. It is famous for its views of Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest. The trek from Manebhanjan to Sandakphu and Phalut is popular.
