The images are of various Tirolean Schuetzen Militia Companies that gathered and assembled in the small village of Navis in the Navistal valley, a branch valley off the main Wipptal valley that leads to the Brenner pass into Italy. The Schuetzen Militia are representative of the various Tirolean valleys of the old north and south Tirol that rose-up in the 1800's to fight against Napoleon's French army and the occupying Bavarian army. The annual gathering of Schuetzen Battalions varies each year with the village of Navis being chosen for this event. These young women also wear the crossover black sash to remember and mourn the loss of the Sud Tirol that was forfeited to Italy after WWI in 1919 at the Treaty of St Germain as War Reparations
